The
Wisconsin Main Street Program is a comprehensive revitalization program
designed to promote the historic and economic redevelopment of
traditional business districts in Wisconsin. The Main Street Program was
established in 1987 to encourage and support the revitalization of
downtowns in Wisconsin communities. Each year, the Department of
Commerce selects communities to join the program. These communities
receive technical support and training needed to restore their Main
Streets to centers of community activity and commerce.
The Wisconsin Department of
Commerce contracts Downtown Professionals Network (DPN) to provide basic
and advanced technical assistance and training to the program’s member
communities. DPN works closely with Wisconsin Main Street and local
community staff to coordinate and customize the delivery of technical
assistance and training services to address critical needs and unique
opportunities present in each community.
DPN consultants and contractors
provide on-site technical assistance, customized training and follow-up
support to help participating Wisconsin Main Street communities in their
efforts to implement a comprehensive approach to downtown
revitalization. Examples of downtown management and
revitalization-related topics addressed as part of technical assistance
and training provided by DPN include:
