Jay Schlinsog is the Founder and President
of Downtown Professionals Network (DPN), an independent consulting firm
established in 1999 to provide highly tailored planning, design,
management and marketing services. The firm has evolved to serve a
clientele that includes local, regional, state and national organizations,
non-profit groups and private businesses.
Since 1992, Jay has
worked as an independent consultant specializing in areas of expertise
that include marketing & promotion, strategic planning, market analysis,
non-profit management and technical writing.
Jay is a “field
veteran.” His community and downtown management and development experience
includes tenures as Executive Director of the Walla Walla Valley Chamber
of Commerce (Walla Walla, Washington), Downtown St. Charles Partnership,
Inc., (St. Charles, Illinois) and Old Town Pocatello, Inc., (Pocatello,
Idaho). He has also served as Administrator of The Chief Foundation, Inc.,
and Pocatello Redevelopment Authority (Pocatello, Idaho) and as Program
Manager of Main Street Marshfield, Inc., (Marshfield, Wisconsin). His
professional background also includes experience in sales, marketing, and
retail management & consulting.
In 1996, the Downtown
St. Charles Partnership's revitalization initiative was named a winner in
Midwest Living magazine's 1996 Hometown Pride Awards
program. In 1998, the Downtown St. Charles Partnership received eight
Illinois Main Street Awards for Excellence in Downtown Revitalization. In
2000, St. Charles was named a winner of the National Trust for Historic
Preservation's prestigious Great American Main Street Award.
Jay is a graduate of the
National Trust's Main Street Certification Institute in Professional
Downtown Management, part of the National Trust for Historic
Preservation's National Main Street Center in Washington, D.C. In Idaho,
Jay was certified by the Idaho Department of Commerce as a Community
Development Block Grant (CDBG) administrator. In Wisconsin, he authored a
Main Street Marshfield market analysis study that received the Governor’s
Wisconsin Main Street Award for Best Business Recruitment project.
Jay has served as a
member of numerous boards, commissions and committees. In Illinois he
served as chairman of the City of St. Charles Tax Increment Finance
Advisory Commission and as chairman of the St. Charles Main Street Bridge
Reconstruction Task Force. In Idaho, he was appointed as a charter member
of the Idaho State Journal Editorial Review Board. He has
also served as a charter Advisory Board member for Downtown
Promotion Reporter, a publication of the Downtown Research and
Development Center in New York.
