In
2008, the Iowa Department of Economic Development selected two Main
Street communities to serve as pilots for its Green Streets
Initiative. As pilots, the Main Streets of Woodbine and West Union
will experiment with measures to achieve sustainable communities and
serve as models for their colleagues in Iowa and others throughout
the nation.
With
construction on the projects quickly approaching, and recognizing
the potential for negative impacts on commerce and disruptions to
the way of life in communities during construction, Iowa Department
of Economic Development and Main Street Iowa hired DPN , teamed with
Arnett Muldrow & Associates, to develop strategies to mitigate
adverse impacts that could be caused by construction; and to create
a branding system and marketing strategies that will help business
districts and the communities to survive – and thrive – during
construction and beyond.
The DPN
Team is currently working with the community of West Union to
complete the first leg of the assignment and will commence work in
Woodbine soon. Tools and resources being provided to the communities
